Delegations from each court presiding
At the prestigious harlequin embassy ball
Perched perfectly in lines
They had all come dressed to the nines
Such resplendent regalia
Of tailored national colour schemes
Some cheerfully white with a jewel or two
Others a patchwork of brightly vibrant hues
While others still offered more sombre themes
Based on darker shades of blacks, browns and blues
While fighting to grab the podium males stood proud
In their tails with a slight ostentatious look
Composing to present the best and most eloquent speech
To be delivered in their own native tongue
Some sounded like they were barking at the audience
Other’s discourse sounded more like shrills and trills
Each more lengthy and repetitive than the other
But they seemed to give the girls a thrill
In dress the female mimicked their males
In a paler dusted pastel more elegant look
While the males stance was to hold their ground
The females quietly flittered around
They had all come for one reason only
Of feathering their nest with the best
At the prestigious harlequin embassy ball
