I’m no culinary expert but there is a simple dish that I do know.
The recipe goes like this:
Build a fire in the hearth. Make sure that the embers are glowing hot.
Fill the cauldron half way with water and swing it over the fire
Wait until steam begins rolling lazily off the top of the water
Gently introduce the ingredients into the pot
Begin immediately to stir the mixture carefully.
Not too vigorously or it will spill over the side into the fire
Not too slowly or the ingredients will stick to the bottom and burn.
Notice that the mixture begins boiling violently
The individual ingredients move rapidly and distinctly within the pot
Continue stirring gently
Be careful as the steam from the ever increasing number of bubbles can easily scald
As the fire dies down continue reducing the mixture
The ingredients will slowly soften combining into a thick aromatic broth
Mellowing into a singular thick homogeneous mass
When the previously violent bubbles have been replaced by large irregular “plop’s”
The mixture will have reached the desired consistency
Now the pot can be swung from the fire
Make sure not to overcook or the mixture
Otherwise all that will be left is a dark black sludge
Garnish to your own personal taste
Stir for the last time and allow to settle and cool
Finally the mixture can be ladled into wooden bowls
And the feasting begin
